A Beginner’s Guide to Creating Custom Apparel with Our Design Your Own Tool
No design experience needed — just your idea and a few clicks.
Designing your own custom shirt, hoodie, or jacket shouldn’t feel overwhelming. At Advanced Graphic Designs, we implemented our Design Your Own tool to make the process fun, simple, and totally beginner-friendly. Whether you’re creating spirit wear, a family vacation tee, business merch, or a one-of-a-kind gift, you can bring your idea to life right on our website.
Here’s how it works — and a few tips to help you get the best results.
Step 1: Pick Your Product
First, you’ll choose what you want to customize. You’ll find:
- T-shirts
- Hoodies
- Crewnecks
- Sweatshirts
- Jackets
- Bags
- And more
Each item shows available colors, sizes, and fit options, so you can choose exactly what matches your style.
Tip: If you’re gifting, neutral colors (black, gray, white, navy) are the safest picks — they look good with almost any design.
Step 2: Add Your Art or Text
This is where the magic happens.
You have two options:
✔ Upload your own artwork (PNG, JPG, AI, etc.)
✔ Use the design tool’s built-in graphics, fonts, and clip art
Drag your design onto the shirt, resize it, rotate it, and place it exactly where you want it.
Tip: For the clearest print, upload the highest-resolution image you have. Don’t worry — if something doesn’t look printable, we’ll reach out before production.
Step 3: Customize It
Now you can really make it yours. Play with:
- Fonts
- Color options
- Layering graphics
- Adding names, numbers, or logos
- Front and back printing
If you’re making team gear or group shirts, you can duplicate the layout across different shirt sizes and fit types.
Tip: Less is often more — simple, clean designs tend to print the best and look the most professional.
Step 4: Preview Your Design
Before checking out, take a moment to preview the full mockup.
Look for things like:
- Are the words centered?
- Is the design too close to the collar?
- Is anything cut off or stretched?
Our tool lets you zoom in and rotate the product so you see it from different angles.
Tip: Move your design slightly lower than you think — designs placed too high can feel uncomfortable once worn.
Step 5: Place Your Order
Once your design is saved, just add it to your cart and check out. We’ll handle the printing, quality check, and packaging — and if something looks off or needs adjusting, we’ll reach out before we print.
